PROJECT TYPE

Community website · Redesign

THE PROBLEM

A community website that
needed more clarity.

The old website had useful information, but some important details were difficult to find. Membership information was not easy to compare, and events were mixed with regular posts.

Our goal was to make the website easier to explore and give the community a more welcoming online home.

Original homepage: compact introduction above the post feed
01 / FIRST IMPRESSION

An introduction led by text.

The homepage had a brief text welcome and an administrative post feed, giving little visual presence to the people behind it.

Original membership section: categories and fees in a continuous article
02 / MEMBERSHIP

Key details inside a long article.

Membership options and fees were listed within a long article on an About page, making it hard to compare options.

03 / EVENTS

Events mixed with regular posts.

Community gatherings and festivals were scattered across blog posts rather than having a clear place.

Design observations from the original website. The interactive before/after viewer below allows side-by-side exploration of the live pages.

THE APPROACH

Belonging first.
Clarity throughout.

01 / COMMUNITY PRESENCE

A welcoming community

DESIGN DECISIONS

Three decisions.
Three deliberate shifts.

DECISION 01 / MEMBERSHIP

Make membership easier to understand

Problem
Visitors needed a clearer way to compare membership options.
What I did
I organized the membership information into clearer sections.
Why
People can understand the options without searching through too much information.
Redesigned membership section: separate Student and Individual rows with fees and joining actions
REDESIGN / ANNOTATED VIEW
  1. Membership options are organized into clear cards.
  2. Annual fees and benefits are easy to compare.
  3. A dedicated join button is on every card.
DECISION 02 / EVENTS

Give events their own space

Problem
Upcoming events were harder to find among regular posts.
What I did
I made events easier to discover and browse.
Why
Visitors can quickly see what's happening in the community.
Redesigned events page introduction and calendar subscription actions
REDESIGN / ANNOTATED VIEW
  1. Event cards highlight dates, times, and venues.
  2. Calendar buttons let members add events easily.
  3. Community gatherings have their own dedicated page.
DECISION 03 / WELCOME

Make the website feel welcoming

Problem
The old design did not fully reflect the community’s energy.
What I did
I used warmer colours, photography, and clearer page layouts.
Why
The website should feel like a place where people belong.
Redesigned IGUNU homepage hero with cultural imagery and community and events actions
REDESIGN / ANNOTATED VIEW
  1. Warm photography brings the community to life.
  2. Clear headline introduces what IGUNU is right away.
  3. Simple action buttons guide visitors to stories or events.

REFLECTION

What I learned.

This project showed me that a community website needs more than good visuals. People should be able to find events, understand membership, and feel connected to the community.

Good community design is about making everyday information clear so people can connect, join, and feel like they belong.
